Capestang, Canal du Midi
Base manager Neill Crozier and his team will welcome you to Capestang, one of the most charming and popular villages on the Canal du Midi.
Here you are almost in the middle of a 54 km long lock free stretch of the canal which will give you plenty of time to get accustomed to your boat.
If you collect your boat on a Saturday, don’t rush off on Saturday afternoon, visit the Sunday morning market in the village square where you can stock up on all provisions, and enjoy this colourful event before your departure. The magnificent 11th century village church is something not to be missed. |

After leaving Capestang, your first port of call is the charming village of Le Somail where you will find lots of things to see. The low arched bridge is probably the most photgraphed on the canal, there is a hat museum and an antique book shop. There are several restaurants and cafes, and the large luxurious hotel boats such as Rick Stein’s Anjodi, Colibri and Roi Soleil regularly boor here. The following day you will cruise to Homps, and ancient wine port where you will find several good restaurants, bars and a good supermarket. Try the restaurant En Bonne Compagnie, one of our favourite restaurants. Next on your itinerary is the charming port of Trebes with its attractive quayside with bars and restaurants including a lovely fresh
fish shop and its bistro. Stay two nights here and visit the ancient “La Cite” in neaby Carcassone, a medieval walled city with lots of cafes, restaurants and galleries.
Your return journey is in reverse with calls at Homps, Le Somail and returning to Capestang for your last night.
